How would you like to be greeted by a 10 ft high Sam Bell upon arriving to work every day? This is what AllCity Media’s David Frost and colleagues have to look up to every morning.

No bad thing as far as I am concerned, and I’m sure the majority of you would like to see something similar up on your walls. Well now you can.

AllCity Media recently initiated a Redrawn programme as part of their 10th Anniversary, including limited runs of two MOON pieces by Martin Ansin, and also featuring a wonderful interpretation by Kevin Tong. AllCity MD, David Frost, was kind enough to drop us a line with details on the company, the Redrawn initiative, and the MOON print you see next to their giant Sam Bell.

AllCity was established in 2000 and are responsible for some of the most impactful film campaigns of recent years. The company’s unique focus lies in its specialty in creating original concept-driven campaigns in both the UK and International markets with award winning alternative thinking. They believe at the heart of every visual, there should be an idea that is capable of running beyond ‘just the poster’ and into a full campaign.

As AllCity says:

“An idea can be visually expressed in a number of ways – from a sketch to a typographic or photographic route. We are inspired by many artists and are fortunate enough to know and work with designers, illustrators and visualisers who are influential in their field”

To illustrate this and to help AllCity celebrate 10 years of design for film they are holding three exhibitions over the coming year entitled: Redrawn, Retouched and Retyped. Each one will be commemorating and recapturing AllCity’s expansive work in poster design over the last decade. A fourth exhibition will be held in a public gallery featuring a ‘best of the best’ selection from the initial events as well as unseen pieces.

Well-known artists choose their favourite film from their portfolio and create a fan poster based on their own unique perspective, showcasing some of the amazing talent at their disposal. For Redrawn films such as Dead Man’s Shoes, Control and Let The Right One In all received artists treatments.

AllCity had always received compliments for their MOON designs and they had long harboured a need to realise this as a collectable screen print, and so Martin Ansin was commissioned to redraw Sam Rockwell, and incorporated into AllCity’s original circle design.

The poster was screen printed in a metallic gold and also with a glow-in-the-dark variant for a super-spacey feel. It sits amongst the Redrawn posters as the only version that looks just like the original, and is proudly displayed on the wall next to a 10 foot high drawing of Sam.

AllCity are also offering this fantastic piece described by Artist Kevin Tong:

“I really wanted to make my poster ambiguous, to make all the elements run together, to show how they are all part of a larger purpose, with Sam Bell being the central figure, almost ghosted into the physical world of the space station.”

All prints are limited, numbered, & embossed, so get in quick if you want Sam Bell up on your wall some time soon. Also make sure you check out the other amazing Redrawn works on display on the AllCity Media site. And check back for details on their upcoming exhibitions.
