James Wallace over at Gordon & The Whale sat down with Duncan Jones today at the beginning of the press tour for ‘Source Code’ where Duncan revealed some exclusive details about what the future holds.

The MOON and ‘Source Code‘ Director is currently completing a treatment for his third feature, and revealed that it will not be MUTE, the long anticipated Jones penned follow up to MOON. In fact, Duncan confirmed Mute will be produced as a graphic novel!

Not MUTE, no. Although, I can sort of tell you that I’ve been talking to my producer today and we have decided that we’re going to release MUTE as a graphic novel. Because we’ve had so many problems trying to get this film made, you know? The people who are involved with financing films have just been…shy…shy of making the script. So what we decided to do is we’re going to make a graphic novel of it, prove it…prove it to an audience that this works and maybe in the future get the chance to come back and make it.

Personally, as much as I’d love to see MUTE on the big screen, I also love the idea of a graphic novel, or even a motion comic, was very impressed recently with the Watchmen motion comic, retaining the art of the graphic novel format, adding minor animation and audio narrative, done in the right way (i.e. using female voice actors for female characters), could be an even better tool to attract investment for a full on feature production.

Duncan also revealed further details about the prospective third feature, so if you want to find out more, head over to Gordon and The Whale now!
