Aah MUTE, a dark Sci-Fi film Duncan Jones has been trying to get made since 2009. A love letter to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, a film set in the same cinematic universe as Duncan’s highly acclaimed debut feature MOON. A film fans of Duncan’s work have been yearning for since hearing about it back in 2009. A film that may now get made BEFORE WARCRAFT is released on June 10th 2016.
Speaking exclusively to Empire last night at the opening preview evening of SDCC15 where WARCRAFT is taking centre stage, Duncan said the words we’ve been wanting to hear for a very long time:-
“Dark Horse and Glenn Fabry and myself have been working on the graphic novel for MUTE for years now – literally years – and there’s a very good chance, if I can squeeze it in in these 11 months, that you’ll see the film before you see the graphic novel.”
“It’s 11 months to sneak in my little indie sci-fi before Warcraft comes out, I got Moon done in 11 months.”
That MUTE graphical novel first announced in 2013 is in progress and as ever will be “ready when it’s ready”, when the legendary Glenn Fabry has finished the artwork.
Duncan has often compared the attempts to get MUTE made to those made by one of his cinematic heroes Terry Gilliam with his version of Don Quixote, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Well it looks like Gilliam will finally be getting his film made. Maybe, if we’re very lucky, Duncan will finally get to make MUTE. Cross ALL the thingies!
