Duncan Jones and K5 Set Crosshairs On Ian FlemingĀ
CANNES, FRANCE. Duncan Jones, the BAFTA Award-winning British director of Moon and international box office hit Source Code, will direct the action-packed story of one of Britainās most celebrated yet mysterious legends – James Bond creator Ian Fleming.
Before Ian Fleming became the globally renowned best-selling author, his own life was no less exciting than that of the hero he created. Fleming travelled the world and masterminded real life top-secret operations, inspiring him to create James Bond. Duncan Jonesā take will explore and tie together those events in the authorās life that gave birth to Britainās greatest superspy.
Duncan Jones remarked – “Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes. Ā He witnesses true heroism first-hand. Ā And he saw the evil men could do. Ā Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is; where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?ā
K5 Film (Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur), PalmStar Media Capitalās Kevin Frakes and Liberty Filmsā Stuart Fenegan will produce the film in association with Jim Young and Robert Laycock of the Ian Fleming Estate.Ā K5 International will handle worldwide rights.
Jones is currently in the process of casting the film, which is based on the authoritative biography āIan Fleming, The Man Behind James Bondā by Andrew Lycett, and is anticipated to go into production later this year.Ā It is the only film to be given the full support of The Ian Fleming Estate.
Kevin Frakes says, āFleming is a larger than life character and itās fantastic to be bringing him to the big screen with Duncan.ā
āDuncan is one of the hottest directors currently working in film and everyone has been waiting to see what he would do next,ā say K5ās Co-Founding Partners Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur.
Stuart Fenegan commented, āThe opportunity to make a period action film about the life of Fleming and origins of Bond ā a hero we all grew up idolising – is too great for Duncan and me to resist.ā
About damn time Jones stepped closer to 007…
Hi Ryan š
Can’t get closer to Bond than Fleming eh? I shall be getting stuck into that book over the next week, great news isn’t it?
Brilliant news! Can’t wait. I believe Duncan is one of the most talented directors of my generation. It’s great to see him evolving artistically.
I can’t wait for this. I really admire Duncan. He didn’t try and trade in on his father unlike lots of famous children and more to the point he is genuinely very talented.
Sounds cool. But I thought that earlier this year Duncan said that his next film would be sci-fi followed by something different? Unless this is going to be a very unconventional biographical film.
Hi, Daryl. The Fleming announcement was a huge surprise to all of us (apart from Duncan & Stu of course). Rest assured though, the Sci-Fi feature is in development along with other projects š
Great news. But I’d still like to know what’s happened to Mute? Is it a graphic novel yet?
Hi, Maggie. Yes, Mute is in development as a graphic novel. Will let you all know as soon as we have some news on that š
Glad to hear this. Kevin Spacey’s the first name that popped into my mind. Or are they going after the creme de la creme in Hollywood?
Hi Cee, no casting news yet…
Very exciting~ What I wouldn’t give to be an intern when this film is being made. I’m surprised a biopic hasn’t been made sooner since he lead a very interesting life.
I can’t wait for casting news!
