Source Code: SXSW Premiere Q&A

Source Code World Premier - Paramount by Sarah Wallace

We may not have been able to attend last nights SXSW Source Code premiere at the Paramount in Austin, TX. But thanks to the eagle eyed wonder that is WDW, we do have a snippet of the Q&A with Director Duncan Jones, writer Ben Ripley, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga & Michelle Monaghan.

There’s a wonderful chemistry between them, and great humour, I particularly like the suggestion from Jake, that Duncan tried to invest as much of the production as possible with a British flavour.

There are very minor spoilers in this, not plot wise, and not many, just the one, and only, so if you want to stay free of anything that may potentially reduce the impact of certain elements of the film, stay away from that play button…

Source Code - April 1st 2011

Ok folks, we’re going to try a little live streaming here from SXSW 2011 and hope that the lovely people over there will be covering the premiere of Duncan Jones’ Source Code in Austin, Texas this evening.

For all in the UK, Austin is GMT -6, so with the event starting at 19:00 Austin time, we’re looking at 01:00 UK (apologies for UK bias, but that’s about all my small brain can handle at the moment)

So, pull up a chair, pop the kettle on (or crack open the bubbly) and gaze in awe as we wait on tenterhooks for the chance to join in virtually with Director Duncan Jones, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan.

Source Code: Making Of Featurette

We were alerted to a mahoosive chunk of interview footage for Source Code earlier today by the ever vigilant WDW.

Featuring Director Duncan Jones, writer Ben Ripley, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright, the footage is now edited down into a great making of Source Code featurette, by those wonderful people over at Making Of, who you may recall have some fantastic insights into the making of MOON also.

What is very clear from all this, is how much fun everyone seems to have had during the whole process, and how flexible Duncan was in allowing a great cast scope to do what they do best, and also how pleased they all seem to be with the results. Jake especially, having decided he wanted to work with Duncan 2 minutes into watching MOON.

And if you enjoyed all that, Making Of also have over 13 minutes of on set footage (although be warned, there may be spoilers in here!)

Source Code premiers in just over a week at SXSW in Austin, Texas. General release on the 1st of April. Can’t wait!

Synopsis

When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life.

With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

Filled with mind-boggling twists and heart-pounding suspense, Source Code is a smart action-thriller directed by Duncan Jones (Moon) also starring Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, Due Date), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed), and Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace, Syriana).

Release date of April 15th 2011 is US date, as mentioned previously, we may be getting ‘Source Code’ a whole month earlier in the UK, on March 11th 2011.

Empire Dates Source Code Release For March 2011!

Source Code Jake Gyllehaal as Coulter-Stevens

Source Code Jake Gyllehaal as Coulter-Stevens

The October issue of Empire magazine dates release for Duncan Jones 2nd feature ‘Source Code’ as March 11th 2011.

Featured in the magazine’s list of the ’10 Movies We Want to See Right Now’ Duncan tells Empire when comparing casts on MOON & Source Code.

It was just me & Sam Rockwell and half a day with Kevin Spacey. On this one I’ve got four really talented actors – Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright. It’s a new test, a new experience…

Although still playing his cards close to his chest with regards details (as mentioned in our previous interview when questioned on promotion) Duncan does reveal that Coulter Stevens, played by Gyllenhaal is…

a military man who wakes up on a train not knowing how he got there. Before he gets a chance to work it out, things change in such a dramatic way, he doesn’t know whether the train is real or not.

Duncan goes on to talk about adding humour to the script, and again on the incredible experience of working with legendary editor Paul Hirsch.
