Author Joe Hill thinks there’s something kind of cool about having the Moon rise over his staircase, in fact that’s nearly exactly what he said on Twitter earlier to MOON Director, Duncan Jones.
Joe tweeted the beautifully framed poster to Duncan after hanging it over his staircase. Duncan for his part, was truly honoured. And who wouldn’t be honoured to receive such recognition from the incredibly popular author of 20th Century Ghosts, Heart-Shaped Box, Horns, and comic book series Locke & Key.
Of course mounting such a valuable piece of work can be a risky, and dangerous business, but Joe has assured everyone:
(Note: no lunar objects were damaged in the hanging of the aforementioned movie poster)
MOON continues to inspire others to create, and we are always more than happy to share those creations with you. Just last night, Cardiff band Caesers Rome got in touch with MOON Director Duncan Jones to let him know they had just released the video for their debut single ‘Earth From Space’ which has been directly influenced musically, and visually by Duncan’s 2009 debut feature… Continue reading →
ミッション:8ミニッツ Source Code opens in Japan on Friday 28th October 2011, kicking off with a premiere in Tokyo.
Ahead of the October opening, Source Code Director Duncan Jones will be taking a break from writing his third film, to fly over to Japan for a short promotional trip at the end of this month. Continue reading →
Thanks to twitter friend nightdipper confirming to 源代码 Source Code Director Duncan Jones yesterday, we can now confirm that the long awaited cinema release in mainland China will happen at the end of the month, on the 30th August. For our friends in China, here is a brief synopsis, and the poster to look out for this month… Continue reading →
SOURCE CODE continues it’s journey around the theatres of the world, appearing just last week as the top new entry in the Netherlands box office chart, and opening this week in Denmark & South Africa, pushing past the already fantastic $100 Million in worldwide Box Office takings (now at around $112 million).
Meanwhile, back in LA, it seems Director Duncan Jones is already hard at work on film number three, and has just announced things are moving along nicely, last night on the Twitter:
“Lots of fun today! Met with a few special effects companies and some very talented concept artists. I feel a movie coming on!
I’ve been lucky to make some great friends online throughout this whole film promoting lark over the last couple of years, people who I’d consider proper mates in the “real world”. One chap who seems to share a similar sense of humor to myself is Dan Watts. As is the case most of the time, I can’t quite recall how we happened upon each other, but I’m very glad we did, as not only can we have a giggle online, but I was also able to ask Dan to write a piece for us about Chris Bacon’s score for SOURCE CODE, to feature here on the blog.
Dan is a well respected composer for Film and TV, with credits that include The Sarah Jane Adventures (CBBC), For Neda (HBO) & The World Cup Rock n’ Goal Years (ITV) So I thought he’d be the best person to go on about rubbing strings and blowing pipes and all that business. Over to Dan…
As SOURCE CODE continues to open around the world, Duncan Jones’ second feature continues to inspire fan made posters, and here is the latest addition to the collection.
The poster itself is by Matt Needle over at Needle Design & Illustration, fantastic work Matt. Thanks again to Marko for doing the detective working finding Matt’s site
I’m really sorry about this, but we somehow managed to allow MOON & SOURCE CODE Director Duncan Jones to doodle all over this picture of him, featured in the latest (June 2011) Issue of SFX Magazine.
So not only does the magazine make the noise of Doctor Who’s TARDIS when opened (true), but is also now forever marked by a British film Director.
Not sure, taking these facts into account, that it can remain here any longer, so it’s probably for the best, that it is sent to YOU.
As you may be aware, Duncan is a computer gaming demon (see above) and regularly talks gaming over on the old Twitter. This being the case, gaming related questions, will lead you to the prize. Answer these two questions correctly, and mail your answers to unklerupert (at) manmademovies.co.uk with Subject line ‘MMM SFX Competition‘
2. There’s a grand game that Duncan has mentioned in reference to one of the best effects shots in SOURCE CODE, name that game (let google be your guide).
Competition is open until Friday 22nd April 23:59 GMT
Competition is open to anyone in the world that wants to enter
Signed and doodled SFX Magazine will be posted after I’ve checked my pocket money to make sure I have enough for the stamps (by recorded delivery).
If you can’t wait until then, SFX is on sale now, featuring an article where SFX pick Duncan’s brain on his influences. Good luck!
Director Duncan Jones joked last week that he may have to add a scene into SOURCE CODE where Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) pooped jelly beans in an attempt to “Beat the Bunny”, luckily for Jake, this will no longer be required, as SOURCE CODE has retained it’s #2 Spot in the UK Box Office at least, and has indeed “Beat the Bunny”.
Last weekend saw the end of the SOURCE CODE promotional tour, taking in a trip across United States, then onto Madrid, Rome, Berlin and finally London.
It was a very busy conclusion to promotional activities in London, taking in a full day of press on Friday the 8th April, then a screening and Q&A with Duncan at the Odeon, Leicester Sq. Duncan also took part in an online chat with UK film magazine Empire on Friday afternoon answering questions from the magazines readers.
Empire Online - Exclusive Transcript Duncan Jones Webchat
It’s a great session, questions as diverse as why Duncan chose to Direct SOURCE CODE before moving onto his next, self penned project, what Duncan’s favourite films are (question coming from reader checking previous Empire article on Duncan’s favourite Sci-Fi films) And includes an answer that reveals the existence of an alt take on GERTY’s voice by Kevin Spacey in the style of Christopher Walken!
Duncan also mentions a Venn diagram in the webchat when asked about whether he is a Nerd or a Geek, so here it is, should you need to identify yourself
The afternoon also included a Twitter Q&A with Digital Spy, questions submitted beforehand to @dsatthemovies with personal answers recorded by Duncan. You can view the whole session on Digital Spy Movies. And here is one from a Mr Joe Dante, of Hollywood, CA (not the first time Mr. Dante has appeared here)
Duncan Jones at Kapow 2011 - by Richard Davies
Saturday’s schedule was a little less packed, with an appearance at the first Kapow comic convention, where Duncan took part in a chat with IGN about SOURCE CODE, MOON, and his interest in computer gaming, and thoughts on computer game movie adaptations, all explained in this clip with IGNUK ‘s Chris Tilly
It’s been a hectic few weeks of travel, hundreds of interviews with press, online, and TV, screenings and Q&A sessions (which Duncan seems to love) which has obviously helped get the word out on SOURCE CODE and helped ensure that as many of you as possible get out to your local picture palace (with a few friends of course) and enjoy a bloody good film.
Duncan and his lovely lady, Rodene have arrived safely back in Los Angeles for a well earned rest, and to begin work on the next project. If you want to see what the whole promotional tour has been like from their perspective, go have a look at their SOURCE CODE blog, what they done wrote with their own hands, and done pictures as well
This is not the end for SOURCE CODE though, it’s still on general release for you to enjoy for the first time, or to see again, armed with some secrets to look out for on a second viewing, courtesy of Empire’s Damon Wise. Have fun!
Comic book legend Mark Miller has just confirmed on Twitter that Source Code Director Duncan Jones is extending his stay back home in London after Fridays Q&A at Odeon, Leicester Square, until Saturday the 9th April to appear at the first Kapow Comic Convention.
Good news! I just found out Duncan Jones @manmademoon is coming to Kapow on Saturday.
Also confirmed by Kapow’s twitter feed “Director Duncan Jones will be chatting about Source Code on the IGN Stage from 12.30pm on Sat 9th and doing a signing on stage from 1.15pm”
For further details on Kapow Comic Con, head over to the site now, be quick though, I understand there are not many tickets left for the first ever convention from Kapow based on comic books, and the films and TV shows that they inspire.
