SDCC15: Legendary Panel & Signing Sessions

San Diego Comic-Con 2015The population of San Diego increases a wee bit this week as Comic-Con 2015, the massive entertainment and comic convention, opens it’s doors to welcome film, TV, game and comic fans from all over the world.

Legendary will have a large presence again this year featuring a large booth (#3920), panels featuring cast from their slate of new films, and signing sessions. Lot’s to see, lots to do, so where and when do we get to hear about WARCRAFT?

Saturday July 11th is the day to keep yer peepers on whether you’re there or following updates online.

Legendary’s main panel takes place on Saturday July 11th 14:30 – 15:30. Hosted by Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick the panel will include WARCRAFT Director Duncan Jones and, if signing session announcements provide a clue, main cast members too.

SDCC15 Legendary Saturday Signing Sessions

There are two WARCRAFT signing sessions on Saturday July 11th at Legendary booth #3920, keeping the warring factions of Azeroth apart. 12:20-12:50 is where you can meet The Alliance, 15:45-16:15 it’s the turn of The Horde. If you are at SDCC15 you’ll want to get over to the Legendary booth ASAP as these will be ticketed sessions that are bound to have their ticket allocation taken up very quickly.

If you’re not at SDCC15 and want to follow along with updates on Twitter, follow hashtags #LegendarySDCC #WarcraftMovie #SDCC & #SDCC15.

SDCC14 Panel With WARCRAFT Director Duncan Jones

Although we didn’t get too much detail from Duncan on the specifics of the film itself, Duncan did make it clear we are in for something big with WARCRAFT. This is a film drawing on nearly 20 years of lore from the WARCRAFT universe from the original RTS (real time strategy) ‘Warcraft: Orcs & Humans’ released on the 23rd November 1994 up to the present day World Of Warcraft MMO RPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) which has millions of players worldwide and is itself about to celebrate 10 years online.

It’s a world millions are familiar with, a world millions have grown up with. It’s also a world that may be unfamiliar to many millions more, one that Duncan and the gang are working hard to bring to both audiences.

“There’s an awful lot to draw on from Warcraft and there’s a lot of films which want to make origin stories but I think in this case it really merits an origin story. We want to show how the world of Azeroth falls into conflict between Orcs and Humans.

We do want to make sure it’s a film that’s accessible to everyone”

Speaking about the technical challenges and the size of the world being created for WARCRAFT, Duncan said:

“Our film doesn’t come out until March of 2016, so that’s a ways away. That’s because it is such a technical challenge, we were trying to really do the set building and world building that was done on a film like Lord of the Rings and at the same time bring in the technology that was in Avatar and it really is like trying to make those two movies at the same time. It’s a big project and I think it deserves it and hopefully the final results will speak for themselves.”

With that, much like last years mood piece, the rotten beasts then went on to show some early footage from WARCRAFT that we don’t get to see (Grrrr). There were some kind souls though that did go on to at least describe it, so head over to io9 for that 🙂

WARCRAFT stars Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky, Dominic Cooper, Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown.
Script: Charles Leavitt (Screenplay), Duncan Jones (Screenplay), Chris Metzen (Story and characters).
Release date: March 11th 2016

SDCC2014 Begins To Reveal It’s WARCRAFT Secrets

San Diego Comic-Con 2014 kicks off today, but last night was preview night and WARCRAFT related images have begun to hit Twitter from those in attendance.

First of all is the reveal of the WARCRAFT logo by Legendary.

With Duncan Jones set to make an appearance on Saturday 26th too for a signing session & Legendary having a large presence at the event, hopefully these may be the first of many WARCRAFT updates during SDCC2014.

WARCRAFT And Duncan Jones Return To Comic-Con

Following last years surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Duncan Jones is set to return to the event with WARCRAFT this coming Saturday 26th where those lucky enough to be attending will get the chance to meet Duncan at a signing event as detailed by Legendary on their Twitter account:-

As anticipation builds towards the release of WARCRAFT in March 2016, this event could prove quite popular, so best get in quick as advised again by Legendary:-

No word yet on what costume Duncan will be wearing to sneak in with, last year it was as a Mexican Luchador.

Duncan Jones Sneaks Into SDCC2013 As A Luchador

There’s also no word on whether we may see anything from WARCRAFT itself. We’ve still not seen the teaser / mood piece that was shown at SDCC2013 so maybe (hopefully) there are more surprises to come…

PS – Yes, we’ve all been rather worried about the fact that the new photo of Duncan shows he has rather unfortunately got something stuck in his eye. Screenwriter Gary Whitta organising a collection if you’d like to help.

Want a MUTE Print Signed by Duncan Jones?

Duncan Jones served a double whammy after sneaking into San Diego Comic-Con last month dressed as a luchador. Presenting not only a surprise teaser for his next film WARCRAFT, but also announcing a graphic novel of the long anticipated MUTE in collaboration with award winning British comic artist Glenn Fabry and Dark Horse Comics.

Those attending SDCC were not only present to hear the news, but were also able to pick up a print of two pages from MUTE at a signing session with Duncan. We all gazed on enviously, I pleaded with Duncan to slip a few down his kecks (trousers for you lot not from around these parts) and…he bloody well did!

I’d be happy to hoard them away, but Duncan has gone and squiggled all over them, so I’m going to give some to…maybe YOU!

Duncan Jones Surprises At San Diego Comic-Con with WARCRAFT Tease

Duncan Jones SDCC2013 - WarcraftDuncan Jones just caused mild palpitations (to say the least) in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 during the Legendary presentation by appearing on stage along with a specially filmed teaser to set the tone for what has just been confirmed as the WARCRAFT feature film to begin shooting in early 2014.

Following along online via Twitter and live blogs earlier, Duncan took the room by surprise with his appearance at the annual convention for all things comic, game, film & TV causing comments such as this from Empire Magazine:

“They just showed a teaser for World Of Warcraft! People are losing their freakin’ minds!”

And from The Movie Guys:

“That sound you heard was 6,000 nerds orgasming at Legendary’s Hall H announcement of a WARCRAFT movie.”

On stage with @nerdist Chris Hardwick Duncan was just as enthusiastic as everyone else:

“The opportunity to do something like ‘Warcraft’ is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You hope that when you get the chance to make films, you really get the chance to create fantasy, and in ‘WARCRAFT, I actually get to create a world.”

What those people in Hall H saw this morning stays in their heads for the moment until an official release, or it somehow *coughs* finds it’s way out (please make it find it’s way out…NOW!)

For now though you can head over to Ain’t It Cool for a full run down from Eric Vespe.

This may not be the end of news from Duncan this weekend though. As you may know if you follow Duncan on Twitter, he has been teasing a treat for all as soon as he cracked 150,000 followers on the social network. It may have been assumed that the WARCRAFT tease was that treat, until Duncan just tweeted:

150,000 tweeters gift coming soon… It’s not what you think… 😉

Stay tuned…
