The Future for Oddball Jones – No Escaping from the Deep

Escape From The Deep - Alex KershawWhatever the future holds for Duncan Jones after ‘Source Code‘, it is certainly not going to be at the helm of the movie adaptation of Alex Kershaw’s book ‘Escape From The Deep

Confirmed on twitter in conversation with Collider writer, Jake Lasker, Duncan confirmed that he will not be Directing “..the sub movie” after Jake enquired dying to hear about Mute…when will we get info? Or is the sub movie next?” to which Duncan repliednot on the sub movie anymore, but trying hard to get one of two things made next. Mute is one of those 2

Now we are all obviously interested in news on any developments with ‘Mute‘ being the next anticipated original material from Mr.Jones, being described in the past as his love letter to Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s ‘Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep’, ‘Blade Runner‘.

Set in the same fictional universe as Jones’ 2009 debut feature ‘MOON‘ and also set to feature a cameo by Sam Rockwell, returning as Sam Bell to offer maybe a small epilogue to his story in ‘MOON’. But now we also have a new, mystery movie added to the mix as well, with not a hint of what it might be…

Anyway, before we get carried away with what might be, we definitely have ‘Source Code‘ to look forward to. As announced recently, ‘Source Code‘ will open, and receive it’s world premier, at the 2011 SXSW South By Southeast Film Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas.

The question is, what is an up and coming Director to wear? What kind of entrance to make to maximise the publicity opportunities? Piecing together the clues (reading Duncan’s tweets) I believe we can look forward to the first, public appearance of Oddball Jones, rolling up to the ‘Source Code’ Premier in a Sherman, baby ;)

Duncan Jones is...Oddball Jones

Source Code World Premier To Open SXSW 2011

Source Code To Open SXSW 2011

Many congratulations are in order for Duncan Jones and the gang, as Film Conference & Festival SXSW announce that Source Code will have it’s world premier, and open the 2011 event.

Of course, Duncan is no stranger to SXSW, having appeared there in 2009 to present MOON, along with Sam Rockwell…

Full press release as follows:

DUNCAN JONES’ SOURCE CODE TO OPEN 2011 SXSW FILM FESTIVAL

Austin, Texas – December 16, 2010 – Earlier today, the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film
Conference and Festival announced it will host the world premiere of the Summit
Entertainment film Source Code for its 2011 Opening Night. The smart action thriller is the
second feature from SXSW Alum Duncan Jones (Moon), and stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Love and Other Drugs, Brokeback Mountain), Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, Due Date), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed) and Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace, Syriana).

The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival runs March 11 – 19, 2011 in Austin, Texas.

When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an
unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commutertrain. In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

Opening in theaters nationwide on April 1, 2011, the film was written by Ben Ripley. A Mark Gordon Company production, and presented by Vendóme Pictures, the film was produced by Mark Gordon, Philippe Rousselet and Jordan Wynn, with Hawk Koch, Jeb Brody, and Fabrice Gianfermi executive producing.

“We are delighted to welcome Duncan Jones back to SXSW. His debut Moon showed an
intelligence, skill, and exceptional use of limited resources that’s exactly the kind of filmmaking we love to support,” said Film Conference and Festival Producer Janet Pierson. “Source Code is a terrific follow-up; it’s a smart, suspenseful thriller, and a perfect fit for our 2011 Opening Night!”

Empire Dates Source Code Release For March 2011!

Source Code Jake Gyllehaal as Coulter-Stevens

Source Code Jake Gyllehaal as Coulter-Stevens

The October issue of Empire magazine dates release for Duncan Jones 2nd feature ‘Source Code’ as March 11th 2011.

Featured in the magazine’s list of the ’10 Movies We Want to See Right Now’ Duncan tells Empire when comparing casts on MOON & Source Code.

It was just me & Sam Rockwell and half a day with Kevin Spacey. On this one I’ve got four really talented actors – Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright. It’s a new test, a new experience…

Although still playing his cards close to his chest with regards details (as mentioned in our previous interview when questioned on promotion) Duncan does reveal that Coulter Stevens, played by Gyllenhaal is…

a military man who wakes up on a train not knowing how he got there. Before he gets a chance to work it out, things change in such a dramatic way, he doesn’t know whether the train is real or not.

Duncan goes on to talk about adding humour to the script, and again on the incredible experience of working with legendary editor Paul Hirsch.

Yannick Dahan Heaps Praise on MOON in French Review

Yannick Dahan reviews MOON

Sophie Lefevre from the company distributing the French MOON DVD & Blu-Ray release dropped us a note to point us towards this video review of MOON by Yannick Dahan:

Yannick Dahan is a very frank journalist ! His program TV is broadcast on a specialized chain Terror-SF.

He never hesitate to destroy films and when he praise a film, it’s a great moment !

Watching the review, the passion was obvious, but my French aint so hot. Luckily, the lovely Hélène Bricks has translated it all for us…

MOON Trailer in German Ahead of July Cinema Release

Wehay! From Koch Media, here is the German MOON trailer ahead of the July Cinema release. Looking like MOON will now be opening on 60 screens! Good Times :)

Great 8/10 review from Independentfilme
