Hello Stenton David Jones!

After 9 months in production and 20 days in post production Duncan Jones has just announced his latest work in close collaboration with his wife Rodene (who, let’s be fair, did most of the work).

Welcome to planet Earth Stenton David Jones!

Duncan announced Stenton’s arrival earlier this evening with a tribute to Rodene.

“All my love and awe to the incredible Rodene who made a human being in her belly.  Warrior woman & every day, my hero.”

Signed MOON Poster Auction for Rodene Jones’ Tower Cancer Foundation Chartity

Duncan & Rodene JonesMany of you will be aware of Rodene’s cancer diagnoses in 2011 and her subsequent fight to become free of this disease that affects so many of us and those we love. Having bravely battled the foul beast over the last few years Rodene continues to campaign for awareness of early diagnoses through encouraging all to “Touch Up Your Loved Ones”, if it weren’t for Duncan doing just that they may never have discovered Rodene needed to get checked ASAP in the first place. Duncan Jones Reveals Potential Cause Of Long WARCRAFT Shoot

As the countdown nears it’s end and WARCRAFT wraps next Friday (123 days or 4 months and 3 days since filming began on January 20th 2014), a small clue as to why the shoot has lasted so long has appeared online. Duncan Jones revealed that along with introducing cast member Robert Kazinsky to XCOM, he has also been spending time on set getting in a little gaming by himself.

Duncan Jones On The Cutting Edge As Warcraft Filming Approaches Completion

World of Warcraft - Warlords of Draenor

After a lengthy shooting schedule in Vancouver that started in January 2014, Duncan Jones recently began a countdown to the wrap on the big screen adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s incredibly successful MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) World of Warcraft currently titled WARCRAFT.

Duncan’s last update via Twitter on May 1st 2014 told us:

Which gives us a wrap date of Friday 23rd May 2014, 123 days or 4 months and 3 days since filming began on January 20th 2014. Just a wee bit longer than previous shoots on MOON and Source Code which came in at around 30-35 days. With a release date of March 11th 2016, the gang have plenty of time to polish WARCRAFT in post production, around 21 months. Speaking to Fred Topel for Craveonline, Legendary Pictures’ CEO Thomas Tull explained that time will be used for:

“Well, part of it is getting the date right. As you may have noticed, these next two years, there’s pretty big titles coming out. We wanted to make sure that we got that right, but there are some sequences and some things that Duncan Jones has done that are truly on the cutting edge. You want to have plenty of time to make sure that we dial those in. So by the time they get home and set up, it’ll be a little less than two years. It’ll be about 20 months but we really want to take our time and get this right because the technology that’s employed really is some next generation stuff.”

We still know very little about WARCRAFT, the gang have done an incredible job on keeping a lid on things during filming, Fred did manage to pry a wee bit of info out of Tull though when asked what Duncan brings to the film considering his previous films MOON and Source Code:

“I would say it’s a linear story, but at the same time, it’s Duncan Jones. That’s what we wanted, was again that different flare, not just straightforward fantasy and everything. Look, it’s a privilege. Being able to go from Interstellar’s our fifth movie with Chris Nolan into Guillermo del Toro and Gareth Edwards and now Duncan Jones. It’s really a privilege to work around these folks.”

There is very much a sense that Duncan and the team are creating something rather special, indeed he said as much in a recent piece he wrote for Empire magazine’s 300th issue this month:

“We’re doing something that doesn’t happen in Hollywood movies anymore. We’re creating a great, big, grin inducing surprise! And for that reason, I don’t want to tell you too much…”

WARCRAFT will be released March 11th 2016, keep up to date with the countdown to wrap on Duncan’s Twitter feed, and pick up a copy of Empire magazine’s 300th issue for a great piece by Duncan with a couple of exclusive photos from on set by Rodene Jones.
