Legendary Release New WARCRAFT TV Spot

WARCRAFT POSTER November 2015

Legendary just released their first TV spot for Duncan Jones’ WARCRAFT. As it’s titled (TV Spot 1) we can safely assume this is the first of many as we build towards the June 10th 2016 release date.

As well as this, Duncan also shared some new pics of the impressive set for Stormwind City yesterday. June can’t come soon enough as far as I’m concerned… FOR THE ALLIANCE! (ducks).

Outside of SDCC and BlizzCon, no one has seen any footage from WARCRAFT since shooting began back in January 2014. There’s been much speculation that Duncan Jones and the gang will be screening a trailer, or at least a teaser, on Saturday during the Legendary Warcraft panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, but nothing definite. “What trailer?” has been Duncan’s response to anyone who asks. So, it came as a great surprise on Wednesday evenings SDCC15 preview evening when Legendary revealed a Virtual Reality app that enables viewers to take to the skys of Azeroth flying over Stormwind on the back of a Gryphon.

SDCC15 Legendary VRCreated by ILM, the Legendary VR app for iOS and Android devices gives viewers the chance to immerse themselves in three Legendary films when used in conjuction with Google Cardboard (which some wag called Shaun Hildner over on Twitter called Oculus Thrift).  Cool, huh?

WARCRAFT: THE SKIES OF AZEROTH

SOAR THROUGH THE EPIC WORLD OF THE WARCRAFT MOVIE

Prepare yourself for a spectacular first look at the cinematic envisioning of Warcraft. Climb aboard the back of the mythic Gryphon and ride the skies over Azeroth*: a fantasy realm as dangerous as it is beautiful.

“But I’ve not got Oculus Thrift” you say, no problem. You can run the app and view footage from WARCRAFT, Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim without. Fire up the app, launch your choice of film and move your device around 360 degrees to view all around.

There are currently 2 competitions to WIN Legendary branded Google Cardboard on Twitter and Facebook, or you can pick up Google Cardboard yourself and take your Gryphon for a spin.

Legendary VR is rolling out Worldwide on iOS and Android so keep checking if it’s not hit your region just yet.

San Diego Comic-Con 2015The population of San Diego increases a wee bit this week as Comic-Con 2015, the massive entertainment and comic convention, opens it’s doors to welcome film, TV, game and comic fans from all over the world.

Legendary will have a large presence again this year featuring a large booth (#3920), panels featuring cast from their slate of new films, and signing sessions. Lot’s to see, lots to do, so where and when do we get to hear about WARCRAFT?

Saturday July 11th is the day to keep yer peepers on whether you’re there or following updates online.

Legendary’s main panel takes place on Saturday July 11th 14:30 – 15:30. Hosted by Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick the panel will include WARCRAFT Director Duncan Jones and, if signing session announcements provide a clue, main cast members too.

SDCC15 Legendary Saturday Signing Sessions

There are two WARCRAFT signing sessions on Saturday July 11th at Legendary booth #3920, keeping the warring factions of Azeroth apart. 12:20-12:50 is where you can meet The Alliance, 15:45-16:15 it’s the turn of The Horde. If you are at SDCC15 you’ll want to get over to the Legendary booth ASAP as these will be ticketed sessions that are bound to have their ticket allocation taken up very quickly.

BlizzCon 2014 – Choose Your Allegiance!

We have a few hours to go on the opening day of BlizzCon 2014 until the one hour WARCRAFT Movie Presentation with Duncan Jones and Chris Metzen so it was a surprise to get any WARCRAFT movie news before then.

As you may already be aware, when taking up arms and entering the World of Warcraft you have to choose which faction you wish to represent, Alliance or Horde. Legendary have now launched the first wave of promotion for the WARCRAFT movie by asking you to nail your colours to the mast and show your allegiance.

If you’re ready to let everyone know which side your on, then get over to one of the two web sites just launched and either:

Fight for the Alliance!

WARCRAFT - Fight for the Alliance

Fight for the Horde!

WARCRAFT - Fight for the Horde!Signing up for either will give you access to a faction specific site and provide you with a download pack of image files for you to let everyone know where you stand. Social media icons and cover photos, desktop, tablet and mobile phone wallpapers.

It’s around 2 hours until the WARCRAFT Movie Presentation now, keep up to date with news either here or over on Twitter where we’ll try and live tweet the news as it happens from @ManMadeMovies 🙂

SDCC14 Panel With WARCRAFT Director Duncan Jones

Although we didn’t get too much detail from Duncan on the specifics of the film itself, Duncan did make it clear we are in for something big with WARCRAFT. This is a film drawing on nearly 20 years of lore from the WARCRAFT universe from the original RTS (real time strategy) ‘Warcraft: Orcs & Humans’ released on the 23rd November 1994 up to the present day World Of Warcraft MMO RPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) which has millions of players worldwide and is itself about to celebrate 10 years online.

It’s a world millions are familiar with, a world millions have grown up with. It’s also a world that may be unfamiliar to many millions more, one that Duncan and the gang are working hard to bring to both audiences.

“There’s an awful lot to draw on from Warcraft and there’s a lot of films which want to make origin stories but I think in this case it really merits an origin story. We want to show how the world of Azeroth falls into conflict between Orcs and Humans.

We do want to make sure it’s a film that’s accessible to everyone”

Speaking about the technical challenges and the size of the world being created for WARCRAFT, Duncan said:

“Our film doesn’t come out until March of 2016, so that’s a ways away. That’s because it is such a technical challenge, we were trying to really do the set building and world building that was done on a film like Lord of the Rings and at the same time bring in the technology that was in Avatar and it really is like trying to make those two movies at the same time. It’s a big project and I think it deserves it and hopefully the final results will speak for themselves.”

With that, much like last years mood piece, the rotten beasts then went on to show some early footage from WARCRAFT that we don’t get to see (Grrrr). There were some kind souls though that did go on to at least describe it, so head over to io9 for that 🙂

WARCRAFT stars Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky, Dominic Cooper, Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown.
Script: Charles Leavitt (Screenplay), Duncan Jones (Screenplay), Chris Metzen (Story and characters).
Release date: March 11th 2016
