Not all of us were able to attend, but all of us can listen to a great session, hosted by JoBlo.com’s Mike Sampson either via the iTunes store, or for those without iTunes, over on the Apple Meet The Filmmaker page.

A great session lead by Mike to start with, leading into questions from the audience. As with all Q&A’s and interview sessions that have occurred during the promotional tour for SOURCE CODE, there is a lot of humour, and banter, as well as many insights into how the film came about, and the experience of creating SOURCE CODE. Enjoy :)

Just in time for Source Code‘s UK & US Release date; April 1st 2011, I come on behalf of Reelnewz.com bearing the SCOOP of the CENTURY!!

Duncan Jones and Jake Gyllenhaal

The true source of Duncan's power...revealed? Video after the jump.

That’s right, in this clip from the SXSW Source Code Panel earlier this month, Jake answers a question about how he got Duncan involved by sending him the Source Code script. Then with a little prompting from Aint-It-Cool-News’ very own “Quint,” Duncan reveals the TRUE SOURCE of all his power and wisdom!

Sage stuff, just in time for…April Fool’s day! I mean Source Code‘s release date! Best of luck Duncan, Jake and everyone who was involved in the making of SOURCE CODE!

Source Code: Jake Gyllenhaal On Conan O’Brien – Beards – Sade – Jumping Off Trains

Jake Gyllenhaal & Conan O'Brien

I have never watched Conan O’Brien, I’m British, and only just getting over the fact that Terry Wogan isn’t on the tellybox nearly every night over here. As Jake Gyllenhaal quite rightly points out, he does look like the Abraham Lincoln of talk show hosts. And apparently is never seen in public without a desk?

Anyway, Jake just appeared on Conan’s show last night to talk beards, Iranian Boys Choir, ‘Send In The Clowns’ and Sade, then jumps off a train. I swear this is all linked to ‘Source Code

Moviefone Unscripted With Jake Gyllenhaal & Michelle Monaghan

Moviefone caught up with Source Code stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan for one of their ‘Unscripted’ interviews while at the recent SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

Featuring questions sent into the show by Moviefone readers, and also unscripted questions from the two actors to each other. Really fascinating one from Michelle to Jake about an earpiece Michelle noticed Jake wearing during filming.

Thanks to WDW for the heads up on this one.

What Is The Source Code?

Source Code - April 1st 2011

There’s so much great stuff coming out prior to the release of Source Code on April 1st (10 days!) the synopsis of Duncan Jones latest film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga an Jeffrey Wright tells us:

When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the ”Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life.

With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

But what is the Source Code? Summit Entertainment have released a new featurette featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Producer Jordan Wynn, writer Ben Ripley, Jeffrey Wright, and Astrophysicist Michio Kaku, theorising that what takes place in Source Code, may one day actually be possible in reality…

The Source Code may seem complicated to some (me included) which is why we were crying out for someone to explain it in a way that we could all understand, who knew though, that the man to make it all clear, would be world renowned quantum physicist, Pee Wee Herman.

Of course, Pee Wee Herman is attending this years SXSW Film Festival & Convention to promote his return with ‘Pee Wee Herman On Broadway‘, so it would be remiss of Source Code star Jake Gyllenhaal, to not return the favour, by helping to explain what ‘Pee Wee Herman On Broadway’ is all about.

Duncan Jones Continues To Grow With Source Code

Before I get into the details of Duncan Jones’ sophomore opus, Source Code, I must relate to you the circumstances in which the movie was experienced.

*It all started yesterday afternoon, as I was sitting on a bench outside the Austin Convention Center, soaking up some sun before the madness began. There were canvassers walking around, handing out some nifty Source Code hats and t-shirts, which we may have available for you here.

Source Code Swag

I tweeted out a picture and next thing I knew, I was getting special access to the pre-premiere media party, hosted by Nokia and Summit Entertainment. There I got to meet Jones and his spectacular and incredibly artistic girlfriend Rodene Ronquillo and both were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I’m so very grateful for the opportunity to have met them.

Leaving the party, I donned my Selk’Bag (from Moon infamy) and entered the premiere to curious looks and many a picture from the odd filmgoer.

Ryan Boulding Selk Suit @ Source Code Premiere SXSW 2011

Not wanting to miss the film, I first made my way to the loo. Upon stepping up to the urinal I had a conversation that went something like this:
Man (with British accent): This isn’t a conversation that I usually have at a urinal but wow, I can’t believe you’re wearing a Selk’Bag! Nice.
Me: I can’t believe that you know what it is.
Man: I should, I produced Moon.
Me: Well then, I’m going to wash my hands and then shake yours.
Stuart Fenegan: (Laughs).
Random Other Guy: (Laughs).
(pause)(silence)
Me: And there’s that awkward silence. *

So needless to say, it was a fun, light environment in the sold out Paramount Theatre when the film got rolling, even after Jones called me out in the audience as being from Lunar Industries. Having screened Moon in Austin a few years back, Jones seemed to have developed quite a fan following, as the opening credit cheers reached its pinnacle during his name.

As for the film itself, it’s safe to say that Jones continues to establish his dominance as an auteur in an industry that can so easily be degraded into merely a play for profits. Having been given a more studio equivalent budget, Jones knows how to make the money and the talent work for him.

Brought on the project by Gyllenhaal, the two have quickly developed a rapport that will likely spill into cinema in the future and Jones had no problem getting the fantastic actor to open himself up to such a quirky and yet complex character. Gyllenhaal is quickly working his way into the supreme echelon of acting and certainly breathes refreshing life into a film that could be easily, and unfairly, categorized as another action film – which it certainly is not.

Bolstered by fantastic acting from Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan, and Jeffrey Wright, the film itself is tense, claustrophobic, emotional, and based upon the inherent fear and anxiety that many Americans in urban areas have been experiencing in a post 9/11 landscape. Terrorism is the premise behind the story, but it is merely one of a few well executed plot lines, which proves Jones’ growth as a director.

While Moon was largely focused around a single plot line and it’s progression, Source Code expertly intertwines multiple threads, bringing them all to a head without missing a beat. Jones uses close-ups and tight angles to exacerbate the tension of the film while simultaneously infusing a plethora of humor to defuse and yet enhance the drama of the situation.

Creating an excellent Sci-Fi film that can appease both mainstream audiences and technological and quantum mechanics enthusiasts alike is a feat in itself, and Source Code proves that Jones’ filmmaking prowess, knack for telling beautiful stories, and eye for working a budget will firmly establish Jones amongst the must see directors in the medium today.

The man has longevity in film and will soon be bankable as an excellent media push by Summit Entertainment, including an interactive game, will have people flocking to see this superb movie. Where Sony failed with Moon, Summit will succeed with Source Code and I fully expect to see the name Duncan Jones attached to many a film in the near future.

Certainly get yourself to a cinema when Source Code hits and support an excellent film and a soon-to-be prolific director. The more money this endeavor makes, the more work Jones will get. We all want to see Mute become a reality and we all need to help to make it happen.

Source Code: SXSW Premiere Q&A

Source Code World Premier - Paramount by Sarah Wallace

We may not have been able to attend last nights SXSW Source Code premiere at the Paramount in Austin, TX. But thanks to the eagle eyed wonder that is WDW, we do have a snippet of the Q&A with Director Duncan Jones, writer Ben Ripley, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga & Michelle Monaghan.

There’s a wonderful chemistry between them, and great humour, I particularly like the suggestion from Jake, that Duncan tried to invest as much of the production as possible with a British flavour.

There are very minor spoilers in this, not plot wise, and not many, just the one, and only, so if you want to stay free of anything that may potentially reduce the impact of certain elements of the film, stay away from that play button…
