MOON At The BFI with Duncan Jones & Gavin Rothery PT 2

Welcome to part two of our exclusive interview with MOON Director Duncan Jones, and Concept Artist/VFX Supervisor Gavin Rothery from the August 2010 screening of MOON at the BFI Southbank, London.

Ben Mortimer chats to Duncan about his upcoming 2nd feature ‘Source Code‘, the status of MOON follow up ‘Mute‘, other projects that Duncan has been linked with since the success of MOON (including, as revealed previously, Judge Dredd)

Love how happy they all get at the mention of the Trigan Empire 🙂

Ben also gets an update from Gav on where his career is taking him since the success of MOON. Apologies for the delay in getting this up, but hope that you enjoy enough to forgive us.

Thanks to Ben and James for getting down to BFI at such short notice, and of course to Duncan & Gavin for being so generous with their time.

Part 1 where the chaps talk about the beginnings of MOON can be seen here.

If all that tickles your fancy, please make sure you pop over to Gav’s fantastic portfolio site, and his revealing behind the scenes MOON blog ‘They Never Went To The Moon

And don’t forget to check out Ben and Cuffy’s sites.

Moon Q&A at BFI Southbank 31st August 2010 (by @BFI)
Moon Q&A at BFI Southbank 31st August 2010 (by @BFI)

As we mentioned last week, MOON was shown at the BFI Southbank on 31st August including a Q&A with the groovy MOON chaps.

Although I was unable to attend (hair trouble, and it took ages for GERTY to fix the flowbee) there were plenty of you that DID get to see MOON on the big screen at NFT1 (upgraded from the initial venue of NFT2 due to overwhelming demand for tickets)

Of course, I needed to know how it all went, from you lot in the audience, and those that put it together, and appeared, I thought that would make me feel better, but you all had such a good time…

MOON Features in Top UK Films of 2009

UK Film Council - Top UK Films 2009
UK Film Council - Top UK Films 2009

Figures released this morning by the UK Film Council put the Best British Independent Film of 2009, MOON, in the top 20 box office for both UK Films, and UK Independent Film.

MOON comes in at #19 with a £1.32 Million Gross in the Top 20 UK Films, and #14 in the Top 20 UK Independent Films.

Fantastic for a little British Sci-Fi, with limited release, and limited promotion. Despite this, MOON has continued to perform well in theatres around the world, currently on general release in Germany (1 year after original UK release) and approaching $10 Million gross worldwide (src Box Office Mojo)

A lot of MOON’s success has been down to incredibly good word of mouth, and support from movie sites, and the movie blogging community. Thanks to everyone who went out and bought a ticket 🙂

If you missed MOON at the cinema last year, you can catch it at the Prince Charles Cinema, and the BFI Southbank in August.
