Support Chesney Hawkes Dancing For Comic Relief

Let's Dance Comic ReliefThe past two weekends have seen some wonderfully graceful movements across British television screens on BBC1, as the cream of UK entertainment have danced into our living rooms on Let’s Dance for Comic Relief.

Tonight is the third and final round, before the final itself on the 12th of March, and we have a very special interest in this evenings event, as we can support Mr Chesney Hawkes!

Chesney Hawkes & Duncan Jones - LA Feb 2011

Chesney Hawkes & Duncan Jones - LA Feb 2011

As all of you who have seen MOON will know, Chesney’s classic ‘The One And Only‘ plays a prominent role in the story of Sam Bell, with Director, Duncan Jones, insistent at the time of production that the song be used. So, it seems fitting that we throw our support behind Chesney, and vote for him in tonights phone in, and in doing so, help raise funds for this years Comic Relief charity.

If you can, please watch BBC1 tonight, from 18:40, and vote Chesney, who will be dancing with his teen heart throb (and many of ours) Clare Grogan. He’s up against stiff competition from , Toyah Wilcox, Limahl, Marcus Briggstocke and Adrian Edmondson to name a few (It’s couples night I think).

If you’re wondering what to expect, here’s The Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding dancing to Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ last week.

Armstrong & Miller Address The Issues Of Loneliness In Space

Armstrong & Miller

UK comedians Armstrong & Miller addressed the very real issue of loneliness in a space station in their BBC1 show this evening.

Series 3, Episode 2 of their fantastic sketch show this evening, featured three appearances by a poor chap called Steve, alone on Moon Base Icarus, constantly observed by the station’s AI called S.A.M

Armstrong & Miller - S.A.M - Moon Base Icarus AI

What is a chap to do when alone, missing his loved ones, suffering from boredom, and in need of a little relief? As is so often the case during periods of work imposed monotony, a fellow may feel the need to take the matter in hand, as it were. The problem for Steve, is that S.A.M has an ever watchful eye on him, not only ruining the moment by it’s very presence, but also by verbally questioning Steve’s motives for going to the toilet with a magazine that only contains 4.3% text, and is mainly pictures :)

Armstrong & Miller - Steve on Moon Base IcarusIssues I am sure that our Sam Bell would certainly relate to, issues that I am sure would also have been dealt with in MOON itself, had the film been produced by J. Arthur Rank ;)

The episode is available to UK viewers on the BBC iPlayer for a limited time here for others, I’m sure there are ways.

Here is a clip of the chaps performing as my favourite characters, the street speaking RAF chaps.

Duncan Jones Wins Best Director in 5th Annual Kermode Awards

Duncan Jones has received, perhaps the highest accolade in the British film industry. The coveted Kermode award for Best Director, for MOON.

Ed Sullivan Kermode

Although extremely busy on the first week of filming his second feature ‘Source Code‘ in Montreal, Canada, Jones reacted almost immediately to the news of this fantastic achievement on his Twitter account:

Thats a very special one! And the awards a looker… A model of Ed Sullivan!

For those of you who are not aware of Mark Kermode, what better introduction than that what they put on his BBC Blog HERE:

Outspoken, opinionated and never lost for words, Mark Kermode is the UK’s leading film critic.

He is resident film critic on Radio Five Live’s Mayo Show and on the News Channel, is a presenter on The Culture Show and often appears on BBC Newsnight Review.

Kermode has been a big supporter of MOON, interviewing Duncan on BBC Radio 5Live at the Edinburgh Film Festival back in June 2009 prior to the films UK July launch.

Kermode’s admiration for Jones’ work recently caused him to play a version of ‘Thus Spake Zarathusa‘ on a Rolf Harris Stylophone in homage to MOON.

So, once again, we say congratulations Duncan & all involved in making MOON :)
